I’ve never been to a salt room before. What should I expect?Salt Room Hyannis Cape Cod
Salt rooms are created to simulate the environment of a salt cave where the humidity, salt concentrations, and decor are adjusted accordingly, and designed to set the mood for relaxation and wellness.

While some salt rooms may contain TONS of Himalayan salt brick, rock, and sand, the true benefit comes from the pharmaceutical grade salt that is finally ground and dispersed throughout the air to be inhaled and absorbed in to the skin. The rooms are at about 70 degrees. While seated in comfortable “floating” antigravity chairs, listen to your choice of music that has been engineered to rebalance and stabilize the body’s inner frequency, to encourage both mental and physical healing.

At JBSS we have several options available to accommodate all ages and time schedules. The length of each session can be from 15-50 minutes with the salt concentrations being adjusted accordingly to ensure that everyone receives the same “dose” regardless of the duration of the session.

What should I wear?
No shoes or bare feet in the salt rooms. Disposable white socks or booties are available.

Children’s/Multipurpose Room
We have a room especially designed for kids with a salt floor and fun stuff to play with. We suggest comfortable layered clothing, offer blankys, and white sox are required for all. Kids 7 and under come with one free parent/guardian each!
When the children's hour is over, the room gets dimmed and reverts back into the "Sea Room" with seating for 4 adults.

Adults Room
Our larger room accommodates up to 8 seated people and possibly more during yoga classes. We suggest comfortable, layered clothing. Fresh blankets always available for these 45 minute sessions.

Salt BoothSalt Room Hyannis Cape Cod
For individuals or an adult with a small child. Geared towards people with time constraints who want a shorter 15 minute session, want a more private experience, or may have skin conditions. Comfortable layered clothing, bathing suit, diaper.

*In an effort to neutralize the rooms and let the negative ions do their magic, we ask that you leave all electronics in the lockers provided in order to let your body heal, stabilize, and let go of stress.

How often should I come?
You can’t overdose, but benefits are cumulative over time. So, at least in the beginning, those with chronic issues should come regularly and frequently. 1 - 3 sessions per week is recommended to detox respiration until symptoms are reduced or disappear, and then, just intermittently or if symptoms reappear.

Think of it as a rotor-rooter. Once you get the bad stuff out, it is just routine maintenance.

Who can benefit?
If you breathe, you can benefit. No one is too old or too young to partake in the therapy. It has no side effects as it is all natural and drug free.

Salt is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and hydrophilic. It acts to loosen up mucous and foreign bodies that can accumulate over time in the lungs, making it easier to dispel, and thereby increasing lung capacity.

Whether one has allergies, asthma, or COPD, is a smoker, a snorer (or is kept up all night by one!), an athlete, or a singer who wants to improve/maintain lung health and capacity, or just someone who wants to relax and escape from the world for a few minutes, everyone can benefit.

Salt Room Hyannis Cape CodBabies? Sure!
Babies with croup and rashes are welcome in either the kids room or the booth.

Children? Sure!
Kids are closer to the ground, have a developing immune system , and immature lungs so they are more prone to airborne allergies, illness, ear infections and pollutants. It is estimated that 40% of children have allergies, asthma, or both!

Pregnant women? Sure!
Halotherapy boosts the immune system by reducing Immunoglobulin levels and so, can alleviate asthma, skin conditions, and allergies, and promote wellness. It can also reduce the need for expensive medicines that she might be concerned about sharing with baby. Good for Mom, Good for Baby.

Adults and the seniors? Sure!
keeping respiratory pathways clear, hygienic, and healthy can make you more resistant to viral and bacterial infections, reduce allergy symptoms, and increase lung capacity. Halotherepy reduces inflammation and has been proven to reduce episodes of asthma and other chronic infections and can reduce the need for medications.

Halotherepy also acts to normalize the ph levels on the skin, repairing and rejuvenating it’s appearance. The negatively charged particles cause electrical stimulation with contact with the skin and stimulate collagen production. With its immune system boosting properties, Halotherapy will also help those with psoriasis, dermatitis, and other auto-immune related diseases such as arthritis and scleroderma. Negative ions have also been shown to balance the autonomic nervous system and promote deep sleep and healthy digestion.

Salt Room Hyannis Cape CodHow is Halotherapy different than a day at the beach? AKA how is wet salt therapy different than dry salt therapy?
Who doesn't love to go to the beach, especially here on Cape Cod? The fresh salt air, the relaxing sound of the waves washing onto the shore, the sand between your toes, the natural beauty, and most of all, how it makes you feel….de-stressed, relaxed, tranquil, clear headed, and happy!

A lot of that has to do with the ions that are created when a salt molecule meets a water molecule, is broken down by a disturbance (waves), and becomes an electrically charged negative ion. This happens especially around moving water, after a thunderstorm, and in certain environments where there is salt vapor. These negative ions clear the air of airborne allergens like pollen, bacteria, viruses, pollutants and mold spores.

While salt rooms/caves/spas can be very relaxing and beautiful, without Halotherapy, it is just another room.

At the beach the "wet" salt reaches only the upper parts of the airway, the nose, and mouth, before it is dissolved. It is gone before it reaches the throat. With Halotherapy, the dry salt vapor reaches the deepest parts of the lungs and sinus where it is needed the most.

Who should not use Halotherpy?
Anyone who:
has temperature or infectious disease.
is coughing up blood.
has an acute disease of other organs has recently had an organ transplant.
has chronic kidney disease
has cardiac insufficiency
has any form of Tuberculosis
has acute de compensated heart failure (ADHF)
has sthenic emphysema

Halotherapy should be considered a complementary option to, rather than a substitute for, treatments and medicines prescribed by a doctor. If in doubt, make sure to consult with your physician before booking a session.
